Mobile Phone DOS Attack?
Well, that's odd. I've just started getting some rather odd texts - about 2-3 a minute - from a number of the form '1910338xxxx' [last four digits, slowly increasing].

Each text consists of 2-3 parts (but they don't all arrive completely) and consist of exactly the sort of email you get when your address has been used as a from address in a spam. And each one of them wants me to autoreply.

Anyone got any ideas what may be going on?

The reply number is some sort of premium rate service?

That was my first thought - and exactly why I'm not going to try and phone the number ;-)

I have now "collected" 19103380646 to 19103389752 ...

Have you tried googling for other incidences of such phenomena?

Yes, but the google-fu is weak within me at the moment, so I got nowhere.

Phoned my phone provider, and they were distinctly at a loss - the fact it's coming from a range of numbers seems to prevent blocking it - unless I'm prepared to lose all text reception.

It's probably a coincidence but I got a spam text message today (they wanted me to go to some shitty web site).

This wasn't even 'proper' spam - just the hailstorm of bounce emails you get when your email address has been used as a fake 'from:' address in a spam attack - only to my phone.

I suppose someone could have set up a mail to text gateway and got the number wrong, but I doubt it. Or rather, I doubt the innocence of the intent....
